A Few Thoughts on Choosing
Kitchen Appliances

Have you looked at the kitchen appliances on the market recently?  There are so many choices and features that it can be mind-boggling to make a selection!  What is important to remember is to choose appliances that fit your lifestyle and budget.   If you love to cook and entertain, you will want the appliance features that enhance your skills and make preparation easier.

I think that one of the best things you can do if you are looking for new kitchen appliances is to visit an appliance distributor in your area to view all the models.  They do not always sell directly to the public, but will educate you about the brands they represent and recommend local dealers from whom to purchase.  Appliance distributors near major cities have beautiful showrooms showcasing their brands in kitchen vignettes.  Often they will host demonstration events using the appliances to prepare a delicious meal that you can sample, and after you have made a purchase you can often return for a hands-on use and care class that will help you get the maximum benefit from them.  Some selling dealers also have live kitchen set-ups for demonstrations.  I can't think of a more enjoyable way to do my appliance shopping homework!

Whether you are remodeling or building, your appliances are a major decision.  There is a wide range of prices and features, and because you will be using them for years, take the time to compare brands and choose those that best fit your needs and budget.  You can pick and choose, perhaps paying more for your range because you love to cook, but compromising on the refrigerator, for instance.  Less expensive models will do the basic job they were designed for, but more expensive ones may include the latest technology that makes them quieter, or preserves food longer, or gives you near restaurant-quality cooking capability.

Should you choose all of your kitchen appliances from the same brand?  Not necessarily.  If a uniform look is important to you, then you will probably want to stay in the same brand family.  You will get a consistent look in styling, handles and finish.  Stainless steel may be stainless steel, but it is amazing how slightly different the grain and finish can look from one manufacturer to the next.  If you choose your appliances individually based upon the features offered, then you can get around the consistency problem by ordering custom cabinet panels that match your cabinets on some of the units like the refrigerator, dishwasher, warming drawer and ice maker.  Make sure you choose a model that will accept the custom panels--not all do.  Your appliance dealer will tell you if it can.
